Reverend Dr. Calvin E. Owens, Pastor




Reverend Dr. Calvin E. Owens, Sr. has been the Pastor of Community 
Protestant Church since June of 1976. During his tenure, the congregation 
has more than quadrupled in membership and was blessed in May of 2001
to move into their new multi-million dollar edifice.

Reverend Owens was licensed to preach in 1967 at Unity Tabernacle Baptist
Church, Mt. Vernon, New York. He was ordained a minister of the Gospel in 
1968 at First Corinthian Baptist Church, New York City, where he served for
six years as Director of the Youth Department. In 1974, he became the
Pastor of the New Community Baptist Church of New York City. He
remained at this position until 1976, when he was called to serve as 
Pastor of Community Protestant Church.

He has completed advance studies at the Herbert H. Lehman College, Bronx,
New York and is a graduate of New York Theological Seminary, New York City, New York.

Pastor Owens served as 1st Vice-President of the Riverbay Board of Directors of Co-op City, Bronx, New York; the New York City Police Department’s Police/Clergy Liaison Committee and for the over 12 years has served as a member of Community Board #10, Bronx, New York. Rev. Owens is the past President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Greater New York & Vicinity.

His dedication and service to his church, community and the youth have bestowed upon him many honors and awards. Included among these are: 2 Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degrees; a Certificate of Award for Faithful Service from the New York Baptist Educational Center, Inc; New York Health and Hospital Corporation’s Harlem Hospital Center Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Service and Contributions to the Department of Pastoral Care; Bronx Ministers Evening Conference Scholarship Award; recognition in the Congressional Record – November 3, 2005 for 29 years of outstanding dedication and service as a Pastor and Community Leader; as well as many other awards for outstanding Christian Leadership and Service from the Community and Religious organizations. He is recognized as a man totally committed to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rev. Owens is a native of Jarvisburg, North Carolina and the proud father of three sons and three daughters.
